Every 5,000–7,500 miles
Change the oil and filter, rotate tires, top off fluids, and check tire pressure. In North Texas heat and DFW stop-and-go traffic, most cars fall under the 'severe service' schedule, so lean toward the shorter end.
What maintenance is due at 30,000 miles?
The 30k service is mostly filters and inspections:
- Engine air filter
- Cabin air filter (dust and pollen are heavy in DFW)
- Brake pad and rotor inspection
- Battery test — many batteries in Texas are near end-of-life at 2–3 years
- Wiper blades
What maintenance is due at 60,000 miles?
Everything from 30k, plus spark plugs on many engines, brake fluid flush, coolant service on older coolant types, and a serpentine belt inspection. Many cars also need their first set of brake pads by now.
What maintenance is due at 90,000–100,000 miles?
This is the big one. Timing belt replacement (if equipped), water pump, transmission fluid service, spark plugs on long-life engines, serpentine belt, radiator hoses, and suspension inspection for worn shocks and struts.
Maintenance after 120,000 miles
Repeat the 60k items, inspect motor mounts, oxygen sensors, and the fuel pump, and watch for oil leaks from valve cover and oil pan gaskets. A well-maintained modern car can comfortably pass 200,000 miles.
